Xbox 360 question about the grey thing.?

My Xbox 360 broke and they want to much to fix it so I just bought another one, but I just looked at it and saw it has no grey thing on top.( Don't know what they are called.) So can I use my other grey thing from my old xbox 360 or will that not work?
